for those who have used bio oil with success, does it just fade out the stretch marks after the first application (like makeup)? or do you need to keep using over a period of time before it starts to fade out?

You need to use it for ages. Time is really the best thing that helps them fade. They go from purply red to sorta white but usually wont disappear completely. And if you are still getting bigger and bigger they wont fade as quick. Prevention is better than treatment so using bio oil before they appear.
You can disguise them with tanning but often that skin wont tan as its scar tissue kinda. Fake tan also helps to hide them.

Is bio oil any good at re-elasticising loose skin? Or is it more for pigmentation issues?

Lol theres not many products out there that re-elasticise loose skin. Thats what most of the anti aging face creams are tryna do but still waiting on the miracle cream.
Best bet for that would be to try an anti-cellulite cream. They normally "work" by firming and tightening the skin. Try Loreal Perfectslim it kinda tightens your skin as it dries. I used to put it on my thighs then put on those tube bandages to compress them overnight. Depends on where you loose skin is tho.

i know of a few people buying that microabraision cream stuff from trademe, epiderm? or something like that to fix forehead wrinkles. they've have good results from it. I tried it on some minor stretch marks on my shoulder but it didnt solve the issue, only made it nice and smooth.

I should clarify: it's not for me - it's for a friend who's lost a shitload of weight. But there's not that much loose skin, and he's still young and springy so it should naturally tighten up soon anyway. 8)

 o.k.

.....

Stetch marks fade with time - some people have the genetics to avoid them but some are predisposed. I have heard the only real way to get rid of them is to have them lasered. not sure if its 100% true but I was told once that it has a lot to do with how fast your body expands with water retention (and retracts) - which is why it is more common with pregnancy.

i have them on my delts, lower back, inside thigh and triceps - not really that noticable these days. The mark on my back arrived when I was 16 ... I think grew from 5'11 to 6'3 in 12 months.

hahaha I bloody hope it tightens up soon!

Any help would always be a bonus!

I don't even think laser treatment can actually get rid of them. Coz they are scars which means the tissue has been ripped and fibrosis has occurred to repair it. Some parts of the body repair themselves by regeneration like bone and muscle etc but some repair themselves by scar tissue which is strong but doesn't behave the same way as normal tissue. Because this is the case with stretch marks ultimately you can really only fade them because the scar tissue will always be there.

Someone mentioned tanning might help cover stretchmarks - I've got to agree. I've no experience covering stretchmarks but spots and blemishes on the face and body in general are much easier to cover when the skin is naturally dark or taken a shade darker with a fake tan or deeper foundation etc.

Any blemish or mark shows up a great deal more on pale or fair skin - take it from me, I have ivory skin & acne so...go tan (fake preferably)!
